Normal personality, Big 5
There are many tests on the market that try to measure our personality. It is not an easy task, and some manage it better than others. We experience that Hogan's five-factor model (Big five) test, Hogan's Personality Inventory (HPI), is one of those who manage this best. This ties in with Hogan's more than four decades of validated research on the impact of personality on organizational success and which personality traits promote success in various roles.
The dark side of the personality
In many cases, it is not enough to test our normal personality, often known as Big-5 personality traits. What destroys us in working life is usually the darker side of our personality, our areas of development. These most often emerge under stress and pressure, and in today's hectic working life many experience this on a daily basis.
Often there can be things that are normally our strength but which under stress are used too much and too extreme. For example, a self-confident person who becomes arrogant, takes too many chances and overruns others. Someone who is good at mediating between others is afraid to take sides and shy away from conflict. Someone who is good at details loses the overview and becomes a perfectionist. Someone who normally has a healthy skepticism becomes critical of other people's proposals, mistrustful and perceived as negative.
